I'm highly considering attending an accredited online school that offers a bachelor's - master's degree course in software development. I am somewhat hesitant in doing so though because I've heard getting a degree this way can potentially be a relatively bad thing. I would just physically attend a university but I'm working full time for a hosting company which happens to be a great distance from any semi decent school so I'd have to drive quiet a ways to school which would be extremely inconvient / time consuming etc. Any suggestions or does anyone know of a reputable online accredited school I could look into?

the school doesn't matter much, especially if you're getting work experience.

for the masters program, georgia institute of technology is the only one i know of. dunno anything about online bachelors.

I'm not sure if by "bachelor's - master's" degree you mean that you have a bachelor's and want to get a master's, or if you are just looking in general.

Anyway, if you have a bachelor's, the University of Michigan offers a fully online Graduate Software Engineering or Computer Science degree. I just finished up my MS CS, took me 2 years taking 2-3 courses per semester and a summer class. The project option requires 10 classes, including the project class. There's also a thesis based program if you're into writing a thesis.

More info here: http://umdearborn.edu/gradprograms_atoz/

It's the same as physically going to University of Michigan, so it has the same accreditation that U of M has. IIRC it's around $700 per credit hour, with the program being 30 credit hours total. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either.

As far as future prospects out of it... I got a job at Amazon about a year into the program, so graduating hasn't really done much for my career (compared to working at Amazon), but I was already half way done and it was a personal victory at that point.

LMK if you have any other questions about the Michigan program in general

I'm just looking in general. I only have a couple computer science credits that I got from a technical program my senior year of hs like two years back.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to look deeper into this and I'll shoot you a pm if i have any questions

really doesnt matter if u graduate with a degree from online school
as long as its accreddited u should be fine

i went to a university and took most of my computer science classes via online at the same university lol
as long as u have a degree and can explain/show that you know how to program/problem solve/etc the person hiring you could care less that u went to this school or another
