I am trying to get into programming and decided that Java should be my first programming language to be studied, so i need few advices on how or where should i start learning Java.
Purchased the book "Java Demystified" by Jim Keogh and was wondering if it's a good book for beginners, if not please tell me few books/sites i should start looking for.
Any other input is appreciated, thanks in advance for answers!

There are lots of great java tutorial sites, just google for them. Other than that tutorialspoint, stackoverflow and the official java docs and tutorials at http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/ are pretty useful.

i found that the program eclipse's tutorials helped me allot while learning. also they have a forum which is very well suited to Q&A and you don't get the ridicule you might receive on here.

If you can study from MIT open courseware, I would recommend it highly.
