so I got a NVidia video card and the screen chops up on the simplist games. sometimes the game goes black then goes to dashboard then straight back to game and sometimes the screen locks up entirely. when I alt ctr delete it says the game I play is not resonding and I have to exit out. anyone know a way to fix this. I already set my pref to preferred performance in the nvida controls and it helped a little.

This happens because when your graphics card doesn't render something fast enough, it times out (this value is set in your registry, which is only a few ms). It's usually caused by having too many programs running in the background. Remove as much crap from your startup programs as possible and maybe lower the visual settings for windows (window transparency, start menu graphics, preview window crap, etc).

Also, what kind of video card? Do you have a big enough psu to support it + your other components?

You can also try reinstalling your drivers, or reformatting your hdd/ssd. If this problem just started happening recently for no apparent reason, you should just do a reformat and it should be fixed.
