So on my old laptop, running Win7, I had an app for a Ventrilo Voice Overlay that displays people who join, disconnect, and are speaking on Vent.
I know Vent has it's own overlay, but I haven't tried working it out and I have heard people don't really enjoy it anyway.
I downloaded this program on my new laptop, running Win8, and I have all settings exactly the same as on my old laptop, but it fails to connect correctly or recognize my name or something. As it won't display any channels, or when people are speaking. I will edit with screenshots momentarily.
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or if any Win8 users have ran into this issue (as Googling doesn't produce much help since the program is older)
I have tried running the overlay as admin, Ventrilo as admin, and the game I want the overlay to work on as admin. None correct the issue and allow the overlay to read my name in Vent.
I have also tried using a different name.
As I said, screenshots incoming momentarily.

Got the Ventrilo built-in overlay working. (it was producing an error before:

It's not transparent so it takes up a large portion of the screen; no matter what I'm doing, it's in the way.
I did this by editing my registry as a website instructed to fix overlay capability for Win8.
I thought it may fix the VoiceOverlay program as well, but it did not.
I then tried adding a Registry Edit for the program itself, separately from the one I did for Vent, and that failed to produce results as well.
I know it's got to be possible now. I just don't know what exactly I need to do, edit, or insert.
