I have always wanted to build a site for fun and knowledge of how the Internet really works!

Any advice or help on how to do something is MUCHO appreciated.

I am doing everything from scratch and plan on spending around a month working on it for at least a few hours a night until I think i think I can take a step back and enjoy the sites purpose.

I have adobe creative suite.

Checklist:
Pick a domain name
Rent out server space
Start working on the site
Adding features
Extras.

I will be using photoshop to draw up a generic idea of what I will be working on I the month to come.

Thank you for reading and I hope to hear from you all. :)

not sure what this topic is about. is this just a blog where you talk about your progress or you looking for help on something?

if you're doing everything "from scratch", then i suggest learning html/css if you haven't already

$10.69/yr domain, not bad, but you could get cheaper.

Sorry I haven't had time to post screens yet, I have been busy on Cody Academy trying to learn enough about CSS and HTML to get this site up. :)

Lol, I used that site to familiarize myself with jQuery a little bit. Neat little site.

Best way to start really is to use the technologies that run the internet in the first place.

Pick an easy distribution of Linux, like Ubuntu or S.u.S.E. maybe. Install the Apache web server and configure it (it works out of the box). Use afraid.org to point a dynamic domain name to your home network, and start building a website on it. Within a few months, you'll have a general idea of how websites work...but there's years ahead of you to perfect your skills.

Hope that helps a bit, lemmie know if you have any questions!
