Is there a way for me to own a domain name without paying the price for it or at least not an annual price? I am looking for one that is going to be .nl as suffix so it won't be in high depend.

I doubt it, unless if you can find someone who'd be willing to give you a domain name for free. But even then, it would only be "free" for the remainder of the time it has left until it expires, then you'd have to pay to renew it.

You can purchase domain names from some companies for only a few dollars a year which is pretty much nothing.

sometimes different hosts offer a one-time promotion to register for free, but renew will never be free

You can use short subdomains, as like .. Co.nf, Biz.ly, cu.cc

You will always have to pay for common TLD's.

i work for a web hosting company , we constantly offer free domains for the initial 1 year registration , to my knowledge no company does free registration / renewals , best option is to pay the registration fee and call it a day.
