I went to school for programming and about half my class dropped out in the first year, and only 25% of the class actually graduated.
And most of the students that did graduate already had some knowledge of programming when they started.
You should really start learning now (just watch some youtube videos or lectures from programming courses).
It's not required to know anything before you start college / university, as long as you're passionate about it.
sounds like a shitty school. my graduating class had at least 80-90% retention rate, even if a good number of them ended up going into finance upon graduation (for the $)
i started more or less as a complete beginner in my college CS courses and was pretty successful. if a class/program requires that you have prior knowledge or experience in order to succeed in it, it's must really not be worth your money.
