Unfortunately free proxies suck. They are slow and unstable. Surfing the web with them is difficult enough, but downloading large files with one would be very difficult.
It seems like you are concerned that your ISP is watching what you are downloading. The easiest way to defeat this is to use a VPN. However free VPN's suck as well. You can get a good VPN service for perhaps $3-8 per month.
(If my assumptions are correct about what you are trying to do) a firewall will not help.
