You could always set up a google apps account and use Gmail instead.
At least that's what I did for my web host.

I use gmail, but before I figured out how to forward it properly to my gmail I used cubemail, which I loved.

in that case i'd recommend thunderbird as well, i've used it and it's pretty user-friendly and easy

I used Outlook and was satisfied about its performances.

i'm using outlook for a while and its good enough
