previously, i used the default new tab screen for chrome. i open a new tab and the focus is in the address bar so i just start typing. now i use my own html page in chrome when i click new tab, which has a bunch of links i frequently visit. but if i actually wanna search or go to a url i have to do an extra click to the address bar. i'd like to avoid this if i can. i'm googling around but i can't figure out how to do it. anyone have ideas?

shift+tab?

alternatively, install something like vimium and use the hotkey for search :P

i was hoping there was some sort of javascript call i could make, but it looks like there isn't

looks like f6 works. just gotta get in the habit of doing it. shift+tab seems to go to the address bar last (after all the links) and won't select the whole thing. so i'd have to do shift+end as well.

vimium sounds amazing...if only i learned how to use vim :( installed it and left it disabled for now so i dont forget about its existence. one day i'll get nifty with vim and my life would probably get a lot easier

thanks for the help!

Ctrl + L works in chrome. I don't think javascript allows for that kind of manipulation of the web browser.

It does if you design a browser extension.

my fault, the topic wasn't very clear. i prolly should have used the phrase "address bar" in the title or in the post somewhere
