Any suggestions on where to start?

I'm thinking of taking a computer science and development applications course in college but i have no knowledge prior to programming.

I would like to do something with video games as a career. :)

lots of topics about newbies. look over them in this forum.

it's too early for you to even think of making video games as a career. reconsider it 5 years from now. if you choose to pursue it, iphone/android games are probably your best bet. desktop or console games are generally out of the question. but 5-10 years from now, i'm sure something else will pop up

download visual basic, it's the easiest language to learn for a completly new "programmer"

once you learn basics and understand how everything works you can jump to c# then java & c ++

Vb autocorrects misstakes, and give you options opon pressing a letter. play around and look up how statments etc works.

Look at sourcecodes and videos to understand what the lines tells the computer to do and try to understand it. it makes it so much easier.

good luck

dont start with vb :/ especially vbscript or vb6.

its an outdated language thats most likely older than you are.

vb.net also sucks.

start with C#.net or imo java. if you go with java you can pick u the android sdk and create games and programs for that fairly easily. or you can do objective C for ipods and iphones but you would need to purchase a developer license. (you can also use C#.net for iphones using mono but youd have to buy their sdk which is a couple hundred.) java and andriod is pretty much the only free way to make games for phones and its most likely your best shot of making games.

As others have said, I would start with Java/C#/C++.

Start off with a Hello World tutorial then move on to more in-depth exercises.

Some will tell you to focus a particular language for some reasons which is not wrong depending on what you want to do eventually. Other will tell you to start with Python because its the simplest and most of the abstract things are built-in.

We've been over this before. It's pretty wrong.
