I have a tough choice to make on which path in my academic pursuit on weather or not to go down the .NET emphasis or the Java emphasis trail,

NET path is:
intro to vb.NET programiming
advanced vb.NET
web applications development using ASP.NET

Java path
intro to java programming
advanced java programing
enterprise java programming

I really not sure what diffs / pros cons are i like both -- I really like so far HTML / CSS and the actualk design aspect of a website -- i also plan on minoring in Graphic Design some day.

What i want is to see what you guys think and why -- keep in mind im just asking for informational because i know this is my choice i just want other opinions on what are some possible reasons i should go for one over the other :d

Thanks for taking time to read AND or posting -- mind my crappy grammer / format of this thread.

Definitely ask your CS advisor. They can probably help pinpoint your talents.

what college is that? those classes look too useful to be part of an undergrad requirements

just look for jobs in your area and see if there are more in .net or java. personally i dont understand why you can't swap between them in college to get a taste of both of them.

one thing to note, in the .net world, asp.net is pretty much the defacto standard for web development, but in java there are many different frameworks (jsp, jsf, struts, etc etc).

MATC ( college) -- enrolled in a website programmer and analyst program

I also don't understand that either I mean I'm not sure which one i would like more.

Will do, im fairly strong in every course ive taken so far - besides math of finance ^^

" java there are many different frameworks (jsp, jsf, struts, etc etc " - So essentially what your saying is there are alot more ' defined ' fields within Java compared to going the .NET route? Because like I want more of the ' design ' aspect of building a website since i really wana do graphic arts after this program as well and tie those in as nicely as i can so if anyone else has more advice do share :D

my totally uneducated recommendation would be to go for the .NET route, if you're planning to do fairly high-level work and with graphic/UI design.

it's double edged. if you really like .net it's good news because every .net web developer job uses the same thing. but if you dont like it, too bad. in the java world there are many frameworks. so if you dont like one, you can find a job in another. on the downside, if you want a java web developer position they might want a framework you dont know. but if you're a web developer, odds are that you'll constantly learn new things anyway so it's more of a moot point.

"Design" can mean different things. In particular, you have software design (how should my classes / processes interact?) vs layout (how should this page look?). since you mention graphic design, in guessing you only want the latter. it really doesn't matter what coding framework you look into if you dont want to be a developer.
