Hey, so pretty much I've always liked programming, but up until recently I just haven't had the time for it. Eventually, far on down the road, I'd love to say... be able to make an app for my phone. Or maybe if I wanted to make some kind of schedule widget for my windows desktop, I could just start coding it. Maybe even further down the road, make my own antivirus program or something. I know that normally there are teams of programmers that do that kind of stuff :P but I want to start small, of course.

But the problem is, I have very little programming context. I have no clue where to start, what I would even begin to learn to make all that stuff happen. If ya'll have some ideas or insight to share, please don't be shy :)

Sounds similar to how I started, I had a MacBook and realized they have free coding tools, so i bought 'intro to iOS programming' book for like $2.00 on amazon and read my way through the book.
once you finish that one.. buy intermediate, once you finish that buy advanced, etc etc.

this is the book;

have you read the comments? looks like that's a terrible choice for a beginner. here's a specific example straight from the author

we expect users to already understand the syntax and semantics of C and Objective-C.

this is an intro to iphone development for people who can already program. don't pick this if you're completely new. objective c isn't a very good choice for a first language either.

I just figured he had prior knowledge.
moral of my post, find a language you like, buy a beginner or what ever level you feel you're at, and go.

i think if you know C++ then you may do programming almost in every language , where if you know c++ then you can write program also on android platform . there are many online websites which have tutorials from beginning to advance level ...

you have it backwards. if you know how to program, you'll more or less know how to program in every language.
