I am trying to do hand/finger detection to recognize unique hand gestures in matlab

So what this means is that I need a code that is VERY good at detecting edges while also using little processing power. Since we will only be using this code on a bitmap image (x number of pixels) I need to make sure this code can be integrated to work on a live video stream coming from a Microsoft Kinect.

If anyone has any suggestions or has dealt with this kind of work before, I WILL throw fg your way for giving good insight as far as edge detection methods or algorithms for this general project. Otherwise if you can develop some, most, or all of a code for me I will reward you handsomely

for something as specialized as this, i suggest not looking here. google around for third party libraries, look at source code for open source projects that do this, or ask an algorithms professor for tips. if you need something very specific to matlab and not a general algorithm, then post job ads for matlab contractors.
