So I am struggling with a decision about what to do exactly. I have gone to Community College for almost 2 years now and have almost completed what I would need to transfer into 4 year university(U WA) but its really competitive and even with a good GPA and all the classes fulfilled I could still end up not getting in (and my GPA is at about 2.7 but higher in CSC and math classes). So my question is about the alternative options to 4 yr university and how much of a setback it is/isn't. I know that a lot depends on what you are going into specifically and it would either be software engineer(which is what I have been taking classes for) and have been putting thought into possibly going into networking if I couldn't get a degree and certification for networking would be a good path. So basically, is it way too much of a setback to not have a degree as a programmer? And if so, how about networking? Any advice is appreciated since I'm sure a lot of you had to make a decision like this at some point.

one of my friends works as a web designer (florida) and he didnt go to any college he was so interested in the field he learned everything himself. the company he works for layed off half their staff about a year ago and he was one of the people that stayed.

on another note im RT for staples and not A+ certified. though we have went through 3 A+ people who were just terrible. (i know staples isnt a great spot) point is if your really good at what you do- it doesnt matter if u have the education untill you reach a point in a job that requires education for a certian promotion/pay raise.

good luck!

I'm considering applying to UWA in a few years actually O.o Didn't realize it was competitive.

A degree helps, but not necessary. First step is to get an interview so you have to have enough experience on your resume to attract them. After that, just show off your skills and you'll be fine.

Lol yeah it is, although it helps if you aren't just white or are from out of state. They like that out of state tuition and diversity hah :P
