help? it says, To open this file windows needs to know what program created it.

what do you want to do?
use web service to find appropriate program
select program from a list

e internet explorer wont open. i have windows xp home edition.

about the only thing that works is this old vers of netscape.

also all my icons look like a picture that hasnt loaded

but basically the file type isn't one that Windows recognizes (i.e. it doesn't know what program to use to open it).

for example, if I have a .PSD file, it's probably a photoshop file that can only be opened with photoshop. if I don't have photoshop, windows obviously won't be able to do anything with it.

would help if you post the filename and extension of the file you're trying to open.

You probably have a virus. My buddy had a virus which made all executables unable to run. Have fun!
