Hey, I want to start studying C++. I've been wanting to work on an application for Diablo 3 that can maybe do some DPS maths and maybe have like an equipment interface where I can choose items (from a database) that I would like to have on my D3 character and that I could see the total stats from those items.

I know my expectations are way too high for a total noob, but all I want to do is to get started at least. So how can I get started?

Go on a website like cplusplus.com and start doing tutos... I you want a real database and stuff it may be a bit complicated for someone who has never programmed.. also it depends if you want a command interface or areal graphic interface!

Just google c++ tutorial and try one

if you're a complete noob, how/why did you choose C++? There are better languages out there for beginners. Your requirements as you describe them can easily be accomplished with SQL alone. If you have a database that already has these items, a few queries will get you everything you need.

If you insist on c++, then try here http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

you are realy mean to everyone who asks a question here, either you realy answer the question or not. just sayin....

ontopic:
its true c++ is hard to start with, but if you'd like to learn it, just do it, any other warmup is good, but you can learn the basics by many reading and it doesnt matter which language you choose

How he is being mean? Being honest != being mean. Do you want someone to tell you how hard it is to accomplish what you want, or do you want people telling you that life is a bed of roses and you won't have problems at all? For myself, i chose the first option.

I was at the gun range a few weeks ago. A 4'10, < 100 lbs elder lady came in saying she's never fired a gun, but wanted a 12 gauge shotgun for home protection since she lives alone. The manager said he has them, then asked why she chose it since it would be very difficult to use and probably damage her arm.

Personally I don't think that's a mean thing to do, but to each his own I guess.
