Are they a scam?

people swear by udemy. which bootcamps are you referring to? lots of people online try to get money any way they can, so depending on what you're looking at it very well could be a scam

The well-known and accredited ones are not a scam, I know plenty talented devs who came out of a boot camp and do great. I also know plenty of “devs” who landed a job out of a boot camp as they knew enough and were prepared for the technical interviews.

There are a ton of resources out there, and even more opinions - but if you do one and take it serious they can help you build out a solid portfolio and land a good job.
