Does university finish in winter in the US?
we finish just before summer in the UK like May/June
we have two different styles:
1) 2 semesters (jan-may and aug-dec) + optional minimester (may-aug)
2) quarters (not sure the dates since i didnt attend one)
you graduate whenever you fulfill your requirements. for semesters, you need 120-130 credit hours to graduate, typical classes being 3-4 credit hours each. traditionally, you only attend the 2 main semesters and party/travel/internship/etc during the summer. 12-18 credit hours each semester to average around 15h, and you're done after 8 semesters (aka 4 years). you graduate high school in may, then start college in august. if you got 8 semesters, you graduate in may 4 years later. a lot of people like taking lighter loads. college is the first time you're out alone, and you wanna party, socialize, etc, or else they take time off so they can get a job to pay for college. so it's common to graduate a semester later.
if you take heavier loads and summer classes, it's easy to graduate a year sooner. but most people wanna enjoy their time. i personally took 18-21 credit hours per semester, taking classes in the summer, and i lived at home the whole time. then after 2 years i joined an internship program and took semesters off to work. in hindsight, i wish i took 12 credit hours per semester, lived on campus, and socialized instead.
