that has nothing to do with anything

and what the hell do proxies have to do with anything

nothing in your post has anything to do with anything

It's more or less exactly how AbDuct and Azrad's Python example did it...and OP seemed to like it :)

/e ...and I said Proxy not proxies :/

Then you probably shouldn't be telling us about what functions exist in languages you've never worked with (since they hadn't even been created/invented when you stopped).

You saying there's a built in function for converting Roman Numerals to decimal...in any modern language? :)

Nice goal post move, but yes, these functions do exist in standard libraries (for example there is one in the MatLab/MudPad libraries).

Libraries don't count as "built in" ...they more like mods :)

Point is, OP has a homework assignment to convert Roman Numerals to ASCII, ergo, it's not a built in function, or it would be a kinda useless homework assignment. It would be Call function (or w/e they call it today) and then Return (or w/e they call it today).
If any coders were on when he asked, I wouldn't have even posted.

I've had to look at a lotta code over the years..pretty much looks to me that all that's really changed is the syntax and the efficiency...probably have better debuggers as well. Now I couldn't write code today, but I can guesstimate how it needs to go, pretty much.
That's why I referred to my post #6 as shorthand :)

/e ...and a hail mary pass with 7 seconds left on the clock, TD :)

And being 19 years out of the industry leads to statements like this, and you'll note I said "standard library", so another goal post move?
