I have never been passionate about anything in my life really because I've devoted most of my life to spirituality up until this point. My higher intuitions drag me towards computer science/programming/engineering because that is what our world seems to revolve around and as I see all the useless "human beings" who stare at their phone 24/7 and need it glued to their hand I ponder the question, "What if I could create something that mesmerizes them into an even further technological stupor". I'm not saying I'm going to be some savant programmer/idea man and build the next facebook. What I'm saying is that I am WILLING to dive into a field head on not KNOWING much with the intent of LEARNING and struggling along the way until I accomplish my goals. I'm not looking for some fast track get rich program. I'm looking for a new outlet to explore and this one seems interesting and amazing. You seem like the type of person that was mentioned in the first pages of the "teach yourself java" book I began reading. It stated that existing coders and programmers like to make their field seem so hard so that they can keep their 100k jobs with no competition. Don't be that guy. I didn't ask for pessimism lol. I'm asking for advice from people who know and understand the field.

O and btw i suck at html and css and am struggling even harder with javascript, but guess what? I'm loving the challenge!

You weren't passionate about spirituality? or you aren't now?

did you take my advice and spend a few weeks until you were comfortable with html/css? you cant simply read all the APIs and suddenly be an expert. you should stop at each lesson and make sure you're comfortable before moving on. find a simple looking website and clone it, eg write the html/css to make your site look like his. repeat a few times until it's easier. then come up with your own ideas and make a site. after you have a decent looking site, add code to make it functional.

I've been taking your advice but where can i go to apply my knowledge. Do I have to buy a website just to start creating one or can i just write code on a blank sheet somewhere and see how it looks? Thanks again for the advice. I tried my best to go through each of the steps of codecademy w/o using help and I did ok. Javascript has me a little confused but I'm just in the beginning of it so I'm hoping it'll click with more practice like you said. Thanks again man!

I'm still very much spiritual! I've just mastered my own sense of spirituality and I know what it takes to have it grow without much maintenance and thought processing. Hinduism and Buddhism treated me well in that sense. I practice Vedanta.I believe that the first website I create and master will have spiritual undertones. No matter how controversial it may be. To that guy who said all I care about is money you're dead wrong. I want to create a website that bolsters spirituality and connects yogis, swamis, gurus, priests and other religious and spiritual leaders to anyone and everyone. Most people spend their days basking in the glory of one light(one particular religion) and they never seem to remember that light is a compilation of all colors combined as one. Therefore basking in many religions only furthers one's spiritual agenda leaving the ego way way behind. I don't care about that 200k job. You cant buy your way up the spiritual ladder. I wanna leave this world having bettered the world spiritually through my actions here on Earth, and I think a cool interactive mobile web app or website could really help this world get enlightened so by building something I believe I'm at least making an effort to help a spiritually starving world. Just trying to make a difference man. One step at a time. One day at a time.

If it's just HTML/CSS you can use notepad++ or notepad and just save the file with htm or html extension and open the file with your web browser.

I didn't say the field was impossible. If you took a couple minutes to browse these boards, you will see I am one of the active members helping newcomers and encouraging their growth. I don't tell them they don't have the mind for programming. It isn't an absolute.

I didn't make a blanket statement. In fact, the statement was very targeted. I said YOU don't have the mind for programming. You specifically. You haven't come here seeking knowledge. You came here asking how fast you can accomplish it. As if "it" was something you accomplish. There is no point where you stop and think "ok, that's enough." You never stop learning.

So, yea. If you come here looking for a get rich quick scheme, I am going to label you as such. Luckily for you, you apparently are very spiritual, so you will probably just let it roll off your back and not dwell on it. Best of luck to you. When you stop trying to find shortcuts, and actually start putting in effort to build your knowledge base, come back and see me. You show effort, and I will respond to it.

it took you 1+ years to really get comfortable with it. so at that rate, the OP should be comfortable with it....a week ago?
