only 1 point each, on a test.

if i was a teacher, i'd weigh them so the farther you go the more valuable they became. the obvious ones (3.14) would be worth 1 point each. then for every 2 digits, the points increase by one. so the next two digits were worth 2 points, the next two digits were worth 3 points, the next two digits were worth 4 points, etc.

if i was a literature teacher, i'd assign everyone 10 page research papers due every month. and i'd grade them by just counting the pages. no point reading them since nobody got time for that

Some girl in hs had the first 200 remembered, this is what my memory serves me 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716938937510582097894 and fuck that's probably not totally right, I have it in muscle memory I don't have the digits totally remembered.

if you are just applying for an internship... relax.. You won't need to know how to recite over 20,000 digits of pi.

Expect some totally normal questions, but just be yourself and be honest with your skill-set and you will be fine.

The only time I've seen intense tests / challenges are for senior development roles at places like Facebook / Instagram etc.

For someone who can't read a 3 page thread, I highly doubt you've been hired anywhere meaningful. PI was not related to this thread, it was an off shoot of carteblanche's memory of school.

I got rejected from 2 internships (Amazon and another company) - it happens

Don't expect "totally normal" questions, you will be expected to solve problems similar to that of non-interns and you should definitely prepare yourself

Also don't be discouraged if you get rejected, there's a ton of opportunity for CS majors and interviews are a good learning experience

PI became related to this thread when these guys used the 2nd page of this post to talk about it. If you were read my post you see that I sarcastically said "you won't need to know how to recite over *20,000* digits of pi."

("I highly doubt you've been hired anywhere meaningful.") You would probably be surprised if you saw my CV =)

Just because they talked about it doesn't mean it is related to the original topic at all. If you actually read he was just reciting a past experience in school, which has nothing to do with interviews...

I was literally only suggesting that they would not be answering anything of that nature in an internship interview.

What derails threads is arrogant kids like yourself who try to act superior at any opportunity. I get it... it's a programming forum, u must be super smart.

Let's get back on track...

Does anyone have any advice for how to negotiate? I have a good feeling that I am going to get the internship for the last company I interviewed with..but I heard that they are cheap and will try to underpay. Is it worth trying to negotiate? I really want this one and I don't want to risk losing the opportunity just because of a negotiation

What is an expected pay for a typical non-startup company internship ?? Glassdoor projects the software engineer salary to be 56k - 126k

Normally you find out what your position usually pays, and you find a comfortable range you want and add a bit on top of that. You will bring that number to the table and then they will most likely try to talk you down which is okay, because your real number you wanted was below that of what you offered.

Unless they specified a wage during the interview or in the medium of which you found the job, you are pretty safe to negotiate, just don't be to aggressive or be a space cadet and ask for way more then the position is worth.
