To those interested

Java declining as people realize better languages, now that information is more available than ever.

I will tell you average starting yearly for Ruby where I was looking was around 60k, there are a lot of java programmers, so there won't be as much demand naturally, and starting wages will be lower.

I just checked kijiji for jobs and these are the first 5, 3 of them are java.

Java Team Lead Web Applications/Design (Downtown) - Java

Hardware/Software Engineer - Java

J2EE Java Developers - Java

Software Developers - C#

Startup seeks developer - shitty python (no wonder he's just starting a company)

go to http://www.statisticbrain.com/computer-programming-language-statistics/ and see for yourself

No one who has any talent or wants a decent job looks for jobs on craigslist/kijiji, nor do any places worth working for advertise there. It's mostly the dregs.

Why do you feel that Python is shitty?

Java or C# imo. Relatively easy languages for beginners.

You can make good money doing any of them if you're good, but you can still make good money if you're not so good if you choose Ruby or go iOS. You can swing 60k easy in any of them if you know the right angle, but it's not so obvious in others. Ruby or Obj-C. Ruby, company will pay you more than you'd freelance likely. Obj-C, freelance or company, both would pay good.

because man. the syntax isn't convoluted enough to make you feel like you're doing something only Neo can do.

You might want to read something interesting on the background or history of programming first, that might keep you interested.
E.g. if you read or watch smth about Dennis Ritchie, go with C etc.
