for me this is people who download linux onto their pcs and act like they're better than anyone because they're different, they found something that their friends don't have

in reality windows is a better os since almost everyone who does pc work uses it, if I'm developing cross-platform things I develop in windows just because the list of applications I can use is outstanding

linux is for people who want to be different (ubuntu), or people who run servers, or people whom like having a fast pc

hopefully you've caught where I'm going by now, i'll stop posting in this thread

Support: tons and tons of support by each destro group not counting the billions of other online resources. And when I say support, I am not talking about forum post. I am talking about live real time chat with developers. Try calling Microshit and watch how much they charge you.

Personalized customizations: many different kernals and shells all with there own pros and cons. Mix and match, make the perfect OS for you, by you, for your needs. No generic 1 solution for everyone regardless of your needs.

Programs and applications: free functioning aps and programs for just about every need and use. No constant having to update/upgrade to new latest version to keep using. No having to replace tons of programs when a new OS comes out.

Speed and Stability: Unlike Windows, You do not have to worry about system resources being sucked away causing all of your programs to run slower. Linux is light, It is fast, Even the bloated distros run faster than any windows O to date.

Flexible: If your hard drive dies you can still use your computer by putting a live ISO disk into the drive.

Pride: Knowing you are a part of a community that is not interested in taking as much money they can while giving you as little as they can in return for it. You are not just a user, You are part of a family, A world wide community of people who care and think freedom of use is a right that no corporation can deny you of. It is about taking a stand and proving that you do not have to throw money away to meet your needs.

There is countless other pros but I suggest people try for themselves. The only reason Microsoft is more versatile is because they have had a choke hold on the market for decades. But people are breaking away from them as they see just how horrid Microsoft really is.

everything on the internet is free

there are enough forums and posts on the internet to fix just about any problem. live support is cheesy and slow, much rather read the solution and get to the point.

windows can be personalized and modded graphics wise as easily as linux lol.

there are free solutions to every paid application on windows as well lol. and sure they nag at you to update but you dont need to. what kind of applications have you been using that forces you to upgrade lol. i can also add that if youre using an application on debian and move to fedora or redhat there is a chance that your app will not work any more and you'd have to search for a ported version anyways.

if your computer isnt shit windows runs perfectly fine. now a days all computers come preloaded with at least 4gb of ram and thats more then enough for any windows distro and all your applications and games.

i have a live usb windows drive whats the point of this one?

do you actually feel pride for installing linux? that statement makes me think you are just a new seedling into the world of linux.


overall all your benefits are lame. learn to linux and windows please.

I do linux and windows for now. When the day comes that I can no longer run Win 7, I refuse to go to windows 8 or whatever shitty spyware OS Microsoft is using to collect personal data and "user statistics" from so so that they can find a way to try to charge me for something new. The only people who support microsoft or dumb children who are born into the windows generation and are too stupid to understand how to operate a computer much less install Linux. You can pay Microshit all you want for Windows. But after 20 years of forking out my hard earned money, I am done with them. And almost all of your retorts have no founded basis at all. Windows still runs sluggish as shit even on 4gb ram and a quad core processor. This is not a limitation of the hardware, It is because windows is a bloated pos with horrible file management and a down right shitty file system. the NTFS filesystem alone is known to be responsible for physical failure of disk drives. EXT 4 will never jeopardize your data like that. Windows is shit, has been since they went back to the NT kernal. And it has only gotten worse. Windows XP was the last real OS by Microsoft. everything after is complete shit and a marketing scam to make you have to pay Microsoft and maybe even fork out hundreds more into hardware to be compliant.

Just out of curiosity, what do you do on your computer (except check out neat distros & learn linux)
4gb ram is more than enough, I've never payed for a windows os, also all hardware will work... Lmao

why dont you torrent windows and compair their md5 and sha1 checksum against windows technet blog and then proceed to patch it with a OEM loader like daz loader. for such a avid computer as yourself i can only imagine you knew about this already and just enjoyed supporting microsoft, then again you're bitching so much about it that i think other wise and that you're just a scenester who thinks they are cool because they can run linux.

4gb and quad core is more then enough for my system with windows 7, although i have modified mine to not load as many services, but then again as such an avid windows user as yourself you should know about this as well and have zero problems with the performance of windows for day to day tasks.

edit:: id also like to add even though i use ext4 on my home desktop ext2 with reiserfs is much better and safer for you data if you care about other people recovering your deleted data. i use it on all my hardened kernel gentoo installs when i compile them.

Funny part is there are linux distros that cost, ubuntu is the most well known to hipsters and most every app they have on their app system costs, if it's the least bit helpful. The op is just a cheap ass, microsoft worked hard to be where they are and can charge what they want tbh, people go with windows over macs for a reason, hell I've spent 50 bucks on a networking book I haven't began to read, I must be giving to much to the man upstairs, paper doesn't cost 50 dollars.
