Highly debatable, arguably one of the most rewarding and exponentially growing career paths in the world. The demand is not meeting supply, and will continue to grow in demand exponentially as years pass. Senior dev is averagig ~ 150k$ /yr and an average programmer is averaging 80k ~.

depending on taxes/cost of living, even $150k isn't necessarily "rich"

he specifically wants to be a web developer. those numbers you posted are inflated with non-web developers. if you scroll down your link a little, you'll see a link specifically for web developers:

http://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/web-developer

75 percentile: 85k
50 percentile: 63k
25 percentile: 44k

i wouldn't describe a 63k median as "highly debatable" for being rich.

Making a career path out of 1 language is sort of dumb. Mastering a language, declaring it your career path, and not giving yourself the opportunity of being an all around programmer? An assumption with the post.

Seeing as some people do 2 or more jobs just to make ends meet with an apartment and food, I think a 60k+ is more than enough cushion for ->a<- person to live more than comfortably. Being more than comfortable, in my opinion, is rich. Especially nowadays.

I agree. but OP specifically wants to know about web developers. it's like someone saying they want to be a middle school teacher and asking about salary, then you link them stats about tenured college professors and principals. it's certainly possible to expand into those roles, but not really what OP is looking for.

personally i feel 150k is upper middle class and not rich, but i'll agree it's debatable. 60k is a different story. raising a family of 4 on 60k is just middle class.

you can always tell when you meet a passionate one, because when they tell you about the cool bare bones emulator they wrote, they never fail to mention how the "wife" or "girlfriend" just doesn't get it and gets in the way most of the time.

No, this is only the case if you're a sperglord who can't communicate or interact with other human beings. Fortunately you're in good company because that's most programmers.
