you dont have to use java.

You do for adt though don't you? I'm not interested in html5 app development, is there another alternative?

I do plan on getting into java soon though, the Java jobs here pay far better than the lamp stack ones

you can use other flavours of java (eg: scala/groovy), html4/css/javascript, python, AIR, clojure, sencha touch + phone gap (javascript framework for html5), and prolly a few more things since i've looked it up

I don't really see why one would want to redo the kind of content on this forum into an android app. Wouldn't just detecting client browser and feeding pages arranged for portable device res and ratio do the trick? It would take away the need to port ladder slasher as well.

I've done quite a bit with C#, at least enough to understand the majority of what I see, and I agree it looks like it'll be a lot better than java, but I'm doing this for money not preference.
e/ that is learning java, not this app
this app is to learn java

Readability and usage, just like any other forum viewing app. I have quite a few more ideas for this app as well, sort of a d2jsp+.
Ladder slasher will never be "ported", it's Paul's work and he'll do that when/if he decides to. Android doesn't support flash any longer so it's useless to even mess with.

Besides the NDK (which you certainly wouldn't need for an app like this), why would you use anything else?

cross-platform is prolly the most common reason i'm familiar with to avoid native. and depending on your goals, using an existing skill set might be a good idea.

Let me rephrase that...why would you want to avoid native development? Your app will be slower than native apps, you limit your features and the app will end up looking like a mobile web solution anyways. Phone programming really isn't hard to learn if you know programming logic (well, minus objective-C anyways <_< )

I like to look at like phoneGap is to native development as old WYSIWYGs were to actually developing a website back in the good ol' days of web development. It's a cool concept and perfectly fine for personal use, but it's just lacking in the end.

I'd have to agree here from what I've read/heard. The Facebook app was cross-platform and mark went off on it costing them so much and a waste. Because it's slower with less functionality unless you use a ton of work arounds which is just more time to pull it off.

I hear mono develop is good however haven't spoken with any highly skilled people about it yet.
