c# or java, do a little research on each. I prefer c#

well... all the research I try to do to find out the difference between them requires knowledge of the languages to understand. lol. I think the only thing I understood was that java works on multiple OS while C# is for a single OS (Windows). Or that's what it seem to translate to me.

i would ignore this guy.

what will get you the most job opportunities with non shit companies is your programming logic, not the syntax you know. if the company is any good they would know that syntax can be picked up within a few weeks and that its the programming logic that is what most people lack.

Well, I don't really understand what "programming logic" is yet, but I hope I have it. LOL.

Besides. Job opportunities don't really effect me atm. Being in the military. I'm really only looking for a good starting language and then I will go from there learning the others before I leave the military. So it shouldn't be looked at as me only ever learning just this language. just which would be a best starting language ;) . Java so far seems to be the best starting with. People seem to prefer using C# but more ppl are saying to start with Java.

either one is good. java is more cross platform, but with mono so is c#.

either one is a pretty decent starting language and once you understand the logic behind programming you can move to any language you wish.

java will be more legacy applications, C# will be newer stuff. That alone is enough for me to recommend C#. Not to mention that in general C# has more entry level opportunities.

how can they make you choose between c# and java if you dont know enough to decide for yourself? a few months ago, someone else posted whos eschool did the exact same thing. imo almost every class you take should be a different language to get you in the habit of picking up new languages.

i find vanilla java to be frustrating sometimes since it's lagging behind in terms of language features. but i doubt it'll matter to you.

At least Java's getting lambda expressions in 8.

In the end its all problem solving. If you have an expansive mind and are good at google (or grep)... it really doesn't matter.

I would go C# (.NET) while keeping up in Java. Microsoft technologies are always a quick way of paying off student debt quickly, but in the end if you ever want to go on your own.... open source is the way to go. (Microsoft is $$$$$$)

A majority of businesses are so behind in tech. I wouldn't be surprised if you ran across a VB6 application or two in your time.
