Software Engineering and Computer Science are very strong jobs to be going for at the moment. A college degree will most definitely help you. Especially if you have 0 experience.
With no experience and no degree, no one will want to hire you.

I got my degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in CompSci and landed a Software Engineering job months before I graduated.

You picked a great field to get in to. Keep on going with your degree and a job will be waiting for you.

Experience is what people really look for when it comes to technology (at least in my experience...)  If you provide examples of previous work they'll be more likely to hire you.  Until you have a portfolio built up the best option to you might be looking on craigslist for part-time's to build a portfolio off of (depending on the size of the city you're in of course)

Agreed. Even after I got all my certifications, It was not until I had atleast a year at 2 different jobs before any real companies started to look at me as a prospect. Now 12 years into my career and 12 years of experience on hand, I get job offers for jobs with almost no resemblance to what my skill set is just because I have years of hands on in a related field.

It's best to start out with any job you can get, even if you don't get paid for it.

When I graduated, I started out working for a start-up company and most of the work I did was for free. I took the job because I had sent out dozens of resumes already with no interviews.

Once I had that experience on my resume, I got my first interview at a real software company and was hired right away.

So basically, you're gonna need some experience no matter what kind of degree you have.
