Yah I pretty much got the picture when I saw many different IP addresses. I don't think the the local law enforcement would even handle this i think this stuff goes to the FBI either way I agree with you.
why do you think the FBI would waste their time tracking down a teenager who caused your internet to not work for less then 24 hours?

I'd have to disagree here, depends on the company/console or computer game creator, it's not hard to hide an ip. Even easier to encrypt the packet holding the ip.
If I were you I'd report it, alithea is over exaggerating the thought. There are thousands of idiots to each intelligent person. Chances are that the person isn't smart and found a youtube video. Obviously you can move on and change your ip but a 5 minute phone call isn't too hard for the chances of him being another idiotic kid.
you obviously have no idea what i said. ANY direct connection game in which you have access to the server can give you others ip address (since users are connecting to either you or your server its as easy as packet sniffing or hell you can just pull up all the connections to a running program). consoles work via direct connection mostly since it's easier for people to host games locally on their system then the game makers spending money to create dedicated servers for a game.
also you dont know how tcp/ip networking works. you when you first initiate the 3way handshake you must aways construct an unaltered packet that agrees to the checksum function of tcp/ip which means that the header of the packet must contain the ip of where the packet is going, the ip of who is sending the packet, what kind of packet it is (syn, ack, syn-ack) and then the data. you cannot alter the ip of the packet or else the server you are sending it to will not send the packet back to you in which would mean you would never connect to the server. (and this si how syn spoofed DDoS attacks work btw) unless you mean sending of ip address within the data segment of the packet then yea you cant do that.
also as i said even if he did google the chances of him using a "booter" is really likely and the chance of him getting cought is slim lol...
edit: just googled "ddos booter" more then 5 services came up.
