As eagl3s1ght said, it's very unlikely that removing the width created the desired behavior.
In fact, the -only- two styles you need to apply to make it work is width and float.

This is the behaviour I want, yes. But apparently it still doesnt work on our project, so there is something else that breaks it in IE as it worked on Firefox already.

And like I said before, I'm not so familiar with web developing and specially not with designing.

edit: tried our project code in the site you posted and it works there but not in our servers.

IE seems to have problems with handling empty space " " in the content, is there a way to make IE handle the empty space like a character? If there is no spaces in text it works, but if there is space it goes nuts.

edit: adding "white-space:nowrap;" fixed the problem.

i came here to say stop using float left
and learn how to use displays properly

i'd make fun of u guys by talking shit but then i'm going to charge extra :-)
