Hi,

as above I would like help in running diablo 2 via dosbox on my dell 4gb ram chromebook


I am aware it can be done under a dual boot scenario by installing a linux partition and running it under WINE emulator however I don't really want to go down the route of enabling developer mode unless completely necessary

has anyone any experience with d2 on linux specifically online?

I think on linux you'd have to either run a VM or wine to play afaik

Blizzard banned a bunch of Linux users who accessed WoW and D3 via Wine because it showed up awkward on their servers.

D2 would be fine. I would use a VM as ST said. I'm am unaware of what apps you have offered via COS but DOSBox for D2 doesn't sound right. I use Dos Box to play old DOS games like Hexen, Blood, Heroes of Might and Magic, not DirectX coded games.

Wow.. If they banned people for using wine, they need to redesign warden or something

It's old news though. lol I'm not sure that kind of thing happens anymore but I could be wrong.

I've read a few guides on running diablo 2 via wine and several different configuration's of Linux. But none mention playing online. I wouldn't want to run the risk of being banned. Could someone try this for me?

As I'm a chromebook user I think I'm limited to crouton and chrubuntu

And not sure if the later versions of the game client or wine change anything. Also running the downloader and updater


Edit: also in my first post I meant dosbox turbo which I've seen YouTube guides on how to run diablo 2 on an android phone

And as some android apps can now be run on chrome os I thought I'd give it a try

I'm not aware they even ban on D2 anymore. D2 is only fun with mods nowadays. (I am so burnt on normal diablo 2)

I'm sorry I'm a purist so I won't be playing any mods. I won't even play expansion only use it for the increased resolution.
