sorry i am a noob at web language.

i know its in my root directory of my website but im not sure which file to put it in.

i have the .html file that would display "this site is currently under going maintenance" but i do not have the script nor the knowledge on where to place the script.

any help would be appreciated.

thank you very much (:

usually the server first loads index.php. if he doesn't find that (or don't got php installed) then he opens index.html.

one possibility:
temporarily rename index.php to index.php.temporarydisabled and copy your html file to the top directory

well then you could also try that: rename your index.html to index.php

you really have to start providing more info/detail on what you've got, what you're seeing, where your page is, what you tried (including code/files), and so on.

you can't really expect to get any help just by saying "it doesn't work".
