That makes three Georgia Tech people. What the shit? Has everyone here had an obsession with D2? Who is your professor? The required book for the class is pretty decent, so you could just buy that early and read it. Protip: Ask to use C++ instead of C on the projects.

Ah, I just left off the "central." Anyway, Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach.

Like all text books: a whole lot of money (~$80). Actually, I may have the wrong impression of the class you're about to take. In our networking, we do quite a bit of C programming and some assembly stuff. If that's not what the course you're going to take revolves around, then our book probably won't be very helpful.

Err I was under the impression that he was talking about an actual networking course. Like the art of building a network. I think you are talking about socket programming.

Ah, but isn't the heart of networking socket programming? The nomenclature stems from the course called "Computer Networking," which is a ton of low-level things like crafting UDP datagrams by hand and is tied very closely with operating systems. You're talking about what we call "Information Internetworking," which constitutes an entire specialization (or "Thread"), which involves SQL, mobile devices, how things communicate in real life and a bunch of other interaction stuff.
