Apparently rich folks love the idea of introducing UBI in the US. For years now manufacturers have been shifting their plants to new facilities that have more and more automated capabilities. Does the acceleration of AI push us closer to neo-feudalism? Does advancement of AI somehow create a slew of new jobs? What would happen if a wave of unemployment never before seen comes to America? I could see this all unraveling as people getting basics covered but very little wiggle room for earning beyond that, while the ultra rich gap widens.

Back at one of my old jobs they brought in a huge new robotic\conveyor system and I remember talking to management at the time about how many less people would be needed now, and they had reassured me that people would simply be moved to other tasks, nobody would be fired, and overall productivity would be increased and it would benefit everyone.
Needless to say they cut back on headcount after it was implemented

Can agree with alot of that statement, only time will tell how societies adapt to an inevitable new industrial/tech revolution in this century.
AI and machines could already do a large number of jobs. Self service checkouts in retail alone have decreased checking staff numbers by a factor of ten.

Its hard to imagine a world where machines do a large amount of current human jobs, but its hard to imagine that is anything but inevitable.

don't worry too much either, once no oil, gas and other ressources, no more AI and we all go back to the farms.
