Trans women are women. There's tall women short women skinny women fat women cis women trans women etc etc.

Trans women are biological men, but ask society to be treated like biological women and afforded the same protections and privileges as them.

The crux of the debate is whether biological sex or social gender should take precedence when the two diverge. The answer might differ depending on occasion or context. (E.g. give transgender people the right to be addressed by their preferred nouns, but bar trans women from female athletic competition.)
