It's not exactly the same thing, but Norway's incarceration system has been around for almost a full generation now and its been seen as one of the most effective and humane in the world.
Whehey! ^^
But we are still struggling to decriminalize class a drugs. There is a strong lobbyist police organization here in Norway that are using extremely subtle and manipulative tactics to invoke fear as a tactic to scare minors to use drugs, or mostly marijuana which is the main issue as of now. Everyone knows that in order to solve or meet a problem, you must learn about it. The police has been using tactics like genital and rectal examination as a way to humiliate and traumatize very young youths, because they think that doing that saves them from wanting to associate with drugs of any kind and thus staying away from it, and keeping from forming drug communities. But all it does is that it creates a psychological barrier that becomes more tempting to break later with stronger drug use. It doesn't help anything. As well as the trauma itself of being humiliated and havng to live with the shame of the experience.
This is and has been a strong public discussion case for quite a while now and has gotten quite a few headlines. But whether the social public interest is strong enough to force through better solution remains to be seen. There has actually been reports though of such methods being less and less used, since the police now actually have been told by the state attorney that these kind of methods actually are and always have been illegal, unless there is a very good reason to use them. So that is a huge positive step in the right direction.
I simply just can't believe the drug politics is so naive and based in fear and manipulation tactics, instead of simply using knowledge, trust and guidance. Everyone must learn to find and trust their own boundaries, and which drugs they prefer. And those that wants to remain sober, can still do that if they want to.
