Hello. I remember hearing about an incident where someone committed suicide by jumping in front of an incoming train in Toronto. Soon afterwards, the government, together with the media, tried to hide the news from the public. Their rationale was that they didn't want copy-cat deaths.
Now, I am not saying that it's good to give people ideas on how to kill themselves. However what the authorities did just bothered me. I felt like that they assumed the role of a nanny over the public. It's like they fancied themselves some kind of benevolent guardian over the masses, who are clueless and in need of their protection and guidance.
Personally, I believe that we have the right to be informed about all kinds of news. Without someone withholding bits and pieces from us all in the name of protecting us. We are adults, we can handles ourselves. We don't need big daddies and mommies to save us from ourselves.
