Brazil/Brasil: supporters of former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro invade Congress
The area had been cordoned off by the authorities but the Bolsonarists, who refuse to accept the election of Lula.
A week after the inauguration of (Left) Social Democrat President Lula, a high place of power in Brazil is shaken by clashes. Supporters of former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro invaded Congress in Brasilia on Sunday, January 8.
The area around the Congress had been cordoned off by the authorities, but the Bolsonarists who refuse to accept the election of Lula managed to break the security cordons and several dozen of them managed to climb the ramp of this building with modern architecture to occupy the roof. They then entered the building, ransacking the furniture present in the building.
The impressive images, reminiscent of the invasion of the Capitol in the United States by supporters of Donald Trump, show a real human tide flowing towards Congress. This building brings together the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
==> The point ? I think it's a failure for Bolsonarists: people want peace and not civil war just because one side lost legit elections.
Not sure if social medias are helping in maintaining the stability. Echo chambers are dangerous.
