The government does not own the legal tender. The government gives the legal tender value only because we the people gave that power to it. If the government is acting uppity then we should take that power from it and follow up with some disciplinary action. The government should be our servant. We should tell the government what to do. The government has no business holding the legal tender in our faces "as leverage".
I think it's really pathetic that you are mentally twisting yourself into a pretzel and invoking "legal tender" (which nobody even talks about, this is how much of a non-issue it is, but you probably consider yourself smart for having thought of it) just to perpetuate an instance of obvious governmental transgression on individual liberty. I would tell you to be ashamed except that I know that this emotion is foreign to you.
