The Biden administration was really pushing for a more than 1-for-1 swap and in particular was trying to negotiate for Paul Whelan and Marc Fogel. After all, whatever degree of actual guilt vs political guilt that got Viktor Bout arrested, he was clearly far more involved and geopolitically important as a prominent arms dealer than Brittney Griner who is just a celebrity athlete. But nope, Biden went for the 1-for-1 swap. At least getting 'something' is generally better than getting 'nothing', and we don't really lose much by releasing a guy who won't really bother us in the future. I'd say overall this is a win for Biden, but damned if it wasn't the lowest hanging fruit and least impressive outcome.

how/why wouldnt he possibly "bother us in the future"?

im failing to understand why a 1for1 is acceptable given the huge difference in the severity of the crimes committed. i wonder what i would have to do to earn the title of merchant of death. (actually, id rather not)
