(Mods this is not a thread about football but to discuss the political statement made by FIFA boss Gianni Infantino)

So Qatar is being targeted by the woke West because of how Qatar has treated migrant workers that were hired to build football stadiums.

FIFA boss Gianni Infantino (being European) basically replied that Europe has treated the rest of the world like shit for the last 3000 years and should be apologizing to the rest of the world for the next 3000 years before giving moral lessons

- Why on earth let Qatar host this event in the first place when it's well known that migrant workers in the Middle East are treated like trash.

- Why be quiet about it at first but when after years of preparation the event is about to be kicked off start a smear campaign against the hosting country.

This is clearly another example of 2022 woke madness and although I don't care at all about football at all at least I enjoyed watched Infantino slamming the woketards B)

FIFA president fails to do his job

One can understand that a high-ranking official of the world association is trying to downplay some of the criticism against the hosts of the World Cup. But relativizing human rights violations and oppression is a colossal slap in the face for those who have suffered discrimination.

There seemed to be real hope for those affected as the entire world looked to Qatar during the tournament. FIFA President’s statements do not help, on the contrary. A picture is drawn that does not correspond to reality. Real conditions are not shown, the reality is distorted. “Leaving aside justified criticisms of the human rights situation, Gianni Infantino dismisses the huge price that migrant workers had to pay to make his flagship tournament possible and FIFA’s responsibility for it,” said Steve Cockburn, head of economics at the Human Rights Department. person. social and cultural rights at Amnesty International following Infantino’s speech on Saturday.

In recent months, it seems that Infantino is not coping with his real duties. He does not act as the president of the world association, but as the ambassador of Qatar to the World Cup. The fact that he has been a resident of the country since the beginning of the year fits into the picture. Infantino does not try to improve the situation, he hides and puts the problems of the country into perspective.

Just a puppet of Qatar?

But how can this be explained? An important aspect here is self-interest. The influence of the emirate on FIFA has continued to grow in recent years. Many sponsors from Qatar, Doha-based beIN-Sports is a major sponsor, broadcasting numerous games. The ties between the world association and the desert state are great, and there are benefits for both sides.

This is underlined by a letter that FIFA wrote to the participating associations on Infantino’s behalf before the tournament. Key message: “Please don’t let football get dragged into any kind of ideological or political battle.” The message was understood quickly, the main characters on the field should be calm, aware of their role and focus on football. Criticism is not welcome.

It is undeniable that in recent months Gianni Infantino has become more and more like a Qatari puppet. This World Cup is characterized by an excellent sports wash strategy, and the FIFA President, as the protagonist, executes it perfectly on behalf of the host country. By the way, the 52-year-old man has no rivals in the next election for the president of the world association.

Unequaled workers deaths

Ideologies can’t molest people. I’m against child molesters if that’s what you’re asking.

Care to stay on subject?

Call it what you will, it doesn’t change my answer and it doesn’t change the fact that you’re drifting to another subject for some reason.

famously corrupt president of famously corrupt organisation throws hilariously deranged hissy fit over deserved criticism for selling the world cup to a shithole with massive human rights issues.

far right rando: "tHaT's mY gUy, hE teLLs iT LiKe iT iS!!1!"

imagine being so ignorant that you completely missed how the selection of qatar as host has been criticised ever since it was made, back in 2010(!). imagine trying to portray the increased media attention due to the start of the tournament as "smear campaign" (implying the accusations are false, even though they are well documented).

the guy has obviously lost it. he's been bought by qatari oil money and wants to demonstrate to his owners that he's worth the millions he personally received from them, as they face international backlash, threatening their plan to sportswash their reputation. imagine siding with fundamentalist bigots and slave owners by calling everyone else "woke" and wrong.

Qatar was a poor choice as they only bought their shot at hosting and people have been talking about it for a couple years already.

Now, what do you think about the mistreatment of migrant workers?
