if only it were that easy. i mean clearly those fundamentalist fanatics are pathetic excuses for human beings, and i wish iranians all the courage and power to get rid of their religious oppressors, but let's not forget how the ayatollahs came to power in the first place in 1979, let's not forget why iranians chose those bastards over the even bigger evil imposed on them by the US and the UK in 1953.
i just hope that a new revolution won't see the kind of western exploitation as its driving force and final goal, but an empowerment of the iranian people, taking control of their political future and natural resources, and becoming a part of the international community again.
That's really the biggest tragedy of it all: in Iran in 1979, idealistic young folks, most of them on the liberal side of the spectrum, were out of touch with reality and horribly naive in their assessment of the situation. Their hatred of the imperialistic Western devil, coupled with completely unrealistic hopes for the future, prompted them to align themselves and help bring to power one of the most regressive and illiberal regimes in history. Out of ideological delusion, these bright, hopeful young people made the wrong choice and picked the side which - with the benefit of hindsight - was clearly the bigger evil, clearly worse than the Shah and his Western overlords. In a crucial moment, they made the wrong choice, and they and their children suffer the consequences to this day.
