There are many Americans from every political background opposed to the national gun registry. So what are the powers that be to do when they know something will cause immense backlash among varying demographics? Quietly push businesses to do their bidding of course!

Not only will they be logging your transactions in a category of gun sales, but at least according to this article there is vague foreshadowing of the companies denying the sales altogether if they think you are buying too many.

This is very concerning to citizens such as myself who’s leisurely hobbies are limited to off roading, hunting, and shooting things. I generally pay cash for guns because my bank has a daily limit for cards, but who’s to say I won’t be getting a knock on my door after purchasing a couple 500 round boxes of 5.56? This is extremely concerning.

W're very clearly moving to a cashless society anyway, North America is typically a few steps behind but usually follows suit with other developed first world countries. Cash's time in the sun is dwindling. You take a trip over to Iceland or Sweden and it's like looking at the future.

Most cards already categorize all your purchases anyway in a half ass attempt to add "Insights" to your online banking experience (really they're just collecting data). I see adding one layer deeper into sub categories as a non-issue. The article's silly example of purchasing a safe and it being a costly item which may look like you made a big fun purchase and putting you on a target list is ridiculous. Is homeland security is going to raid your house I am quite certain they will further inquire with the vendor first what the actual purchase was and see the details of the purchase before they come kicking down your door.
