I am sure we have all heard of cases where entities, usually social media platforms, remove or silence people for allegedly spreading "covid disinfo". To me this is just such bullshit. Why do the people behind these outlets feel that they are qualified to judge whether something is disinfo or not? Besides, that is the whole point of having a public discourse about it. So we can find out for ourselves what's truly disinfo and what isn't. But these platforms and the people behind them have already made up their minds. They are not interested in having a genuine debate. They also think they can unilaterally decide what's truth and what's falsehood.
And when a platform does not allow for true debates and instead promotes certain views and narratives to the exclusion of others, they can be rightfully considered propanganda mouthhpieces. They can no longer claim that they represent a forum where all views are given a chance to be considered.
Question to you: who gets to decide what's disinfo? Do you want twitter or facebook deciding that for you? Why do these establishments act like they have the monopoly on truth?
We need it because people are too stupid to understand what's disinfo and what's not. If we valued critical thinking in this country, we could have nice things.
