Hello. By political bet-hedging, I mean wealthy donors donating to the campaigns of two candidates who have opposing platforms. This is to ensure that no matter who wins, the winner will be beholden to the donor and will pass laws that are favorable to him.

When I think about something like this, it makes me angry. When I do donate to a candidate, it's because I believe in what he says. I share his vision. My support for him is real and it comes from my heart. And I would never in a million years donate to his opponent. I want the candidate who shares my values to win. But these political bet-hedgers game our system, just because they have a little bit of money. This both angers and disgusts me.

However, I think it would be very difficult to prove an instance of political bet-hedging. I don't think people are required to disclose who they are as a campaign donor. I could be wrong, not really sure. However, one thing I know is that it's nearly impossible to prove people's intentions. I mean if they are ever caught donating to two opposing candidates, they can say that they truly believe in both's platforms and we simply can't prove otherwise.

Anyway, do you feel that political bet-hedging is a problem, and if yes, what can we do about it?

Thanks.

Nothing can be done about it. SCOTUS ruled that unlimited campaign donations is constitutionally protected. LMAO 💀

See the case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission

Yes. And very few people are strong enough to overcome it. The three that come to mind are T Roosevent, JFK, and Eisenhower. Incorruptible souls, except in the romantic sense..

I think it really depends on what you're fighting for. There are several issues where there is a lot of agreement and if those issues are your primary focus, I see no reason why you shouldn't influence both candidates.
