Fuck it - Perhaps we let them pass their idiotic and unconstitutional proposals through the legislature...perhaps we let them pass another AWB so the supreme court can overturn that shit and settle it for good lol. Over 20 million "Assault weapons" in common usage across the country nowadays..can't get away with a ban like they did in 94 with maybe 200k in circulation.
Funny thing is they fucked themselves with a double edged blade in terms of their desire to ban assault weapons..
First thing is that they popularized it and made it desirable due to a ten year ban...made the AR the most popular rifle platform in the country. Common ownership and usage is a giant factor in successful gun control. Full auto, SBS, SBR, etc...all not commonly owned like 'assault weapons' are now.
Second thing is that their entire argument is that these are "military style rifles" yet previous pro-gun control rulings have set a precedent that "effective military style weapons" are specifically what is protected, and that weapons not in common military usage are not necessarily protected (short barrel rifles and shotguns.) A primary factor in the court deciding that adding SBRs and SBS' to the NFA was their (incorrect) determination that those weapons were not seen in common warfare.
I would think it hilarious if those rulings came back to bite them and were overturned - their justifications are no longer valid (and likely not valid even at the time of the ruling) - It is known that both short barreled shotguns and rifles are in common military use around the world, and are quite effective. SBRS undeniably.
