Jeremy Theron Smith, 36, faces three charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the May 11, 2022 shooting at a Dallas hair salon, according to jail records. Police say the case is being investigated as a hate crime. The victims were all of Korean descent.
In an interview with detectives, Smith’s girlfriend said he had delusions about Asian people since being involved in a car crash about two years ago with an Asian man, the affidavit said.
Any time Smith is around an Asian person, his girlfriend said “he begins having delusions that the Asian mob is after him or attempting to harm him,” according to the affidavit. He was fired from a previous job for “verbally attacking” his boss, who was Asian, the girlfriend told authorities.
