I have this suspicion that if Elon opens the floodgates to "misinformation" it will showcase the "necessity" by (Gov't/MSM) to do something about it. I think it's just a play, Elon is no one's saviour unless he can withstand the attack the left will ploy if he gives the right a voice. What're your thoughts?

I personally envision the conversations on Twitter getting "out of control" which won't jive with those in power and future policies will make it very difficult for Twitter to survive. Elon being prosecutable for his platform hosting dissident content. Get the popcorn.

The more that Big Gov engages in blatant tyranny and oppression, the more people will turn against them and wake up faster. I'm all for it.

But in all seriousness, there is something called the first amendment standing in their way. Although they sure are trying their hardest to destroy it.

But at any rate, let them try. It will only expose their hypocrisy, arrogance and fascist tendencies even faster.

"misinformation" wasn't a thing like 10 years ago. The elites only care about that now because everyone is waking up to their lies post-2020. It's too obvious what these people are doing.

It's literally "Oy vey the Goyim know, shut it down!!"

Even I am saying that and I LOVE Jewish people.

The ACLU put out a statement denouncing Elon Musk as a 'free speech absolutist'
Personally, I find the term 'free speech absolutist' troublesome. I identify more as a 'militant free speech extremist'

I think very little will change outside of Musk's attempts to monetize the platform.

You won't get answers until the deal goes through and that's going to take several months. I think once Musk learns more about the infrastructure, he'll probably accept a compromise solution: attack the bots heavily and leave the monitoring tools up and running. He'll want to see how much bots contribute to misinformation, hate speech, etc.

Tin foil hat prediction: The deal won't go through until AFTER the 2022 elections

The ACLU's actual statement:

“While Elon Musk is an ACLU card-carrying member and one of our most significant supporters, there’s a lot of danger having so much power in the hands of any one individual. In today’s world, a small handful of private tech companies — including Twitter — play a profound and unique role in enabling our right to express ourselves online. Social media is a critical tool used to share ideas, express opinions, and consume information that has real-life impacts in discourse in the offline world. We should be worried about any powerful central actor, whether it’s a government or any wealthy individual — even if it’s an ACLU member — having so much control over the boundaries of our political speech online.”

Melon Tusk announced himself he wanted to "identify all humans", but he will probably have issues when realizing too much users are bots and so on compromize monetization.

In the same time EU voted the Digital Services Act, barring missinformation, hate speech, even products sales scam.
Companies can get fined by up 6% of their global turnover. Wich can be huge... So Twitter will not change to some alternative reality of the alt-right any time soon.

Why is the ACLU so afraid that Elon Musk will bring free speech back to the platform?

What gives, ACLU? gee, it's almost like you lost your original purpose and became corrupted in the name of leftist censorship.
