So following da French constitution the President has alot of power especially if (s)he manage to get some majority in legislative chambers.

April 24 second round.

Here first results (temporary)

Emmanuel Macron (Center)(28.5%)
Marine Le Pen (right++) (23.6%)
Jean-Luc Mélenchon (left+) (20.3%)

Jean-Luc Mélenchon calls to "not give a single vote to Madame Le Pen"
Zemmour call to vote for LePen.

=> According to first estimate. Macron got clearly more than polls announced.

Zemmour(Right++)(7%) failed badly
Pecresse(Right)(4.8%) failed badly
Yannick Jadot (Green)(4,3%) Low score
Nicolas Dupont-Aignan (Royalist) (2.2%) Decent score
Anne Hidalgo (Caviar left) (2%) Low score deserved it
Philippe Poutou (Anti Capitalist Left+++) (0,8%) Decent score
Athalie Arthaud (Worker's Force Left++) 0,7% Low score
Fabien Roussel (Communists Left++) 2,6% Low score
Jean Lassalle (O_o) 3,2% Good score

So it has increased in spite of the current geopolitical situation. And Macron won the 2017 runoff by a landslide.

yes it has, from 2.7 % in 2017 to somewhere between 4.5 and 5 % in 2022 - and macron is likely to win the second round by a considerable margin again, given mélenchon has made it unmistakably clear that his supporters should definitely not vote for le pen. might still be a bit closer than 2017 in the second round, seeing as le pen tried her hardest to be a little less overt in her racism, and because she officially abandoned her intention to make frexit happen... we'll see.

Can someone summarize why we have close to a third of French voters wanting her as president?

What's driving people's minds?

Edit: And why's the common ground in the middle of the political spectrum in French politics so small? Like every second vote is either super left or super right. What causes those divisions?
