If anyone actually remembers this ancient history, Hillary's campaign funded Fusion GPS / Christopher Steele's opposition research on Trump, which was supposedly paid to Russian sources including at the Kremlin, and attempted to cover it up by disguising it through their counsel Perkins Coie so it wouldn't be reported publicly. The FEC has officially concluded that the Clinton campaign and DNC misreported the money that funded the dossier, masking it as "legal services" and "legal and compliance consulting" instead of opposition research. And issued their due slap on the wrist.
The FEC dismissed complaints against Steele, Fusion GPS and Perkins Coie, opting only to punish the DNC and Clinton, which makes sense as they are the ones responsible for reporting.
They did
not take any action based upon Hillary Clinton and the DNC's circumvention of the maximum donation limits by using state parties as a shell game to have donors launder their money through dozens of different state parties which immediately redirected all the funds to her campaign, a blatant shell game, presumably because like I said at the time, they could argue its technically legal even if its the most obvious money laundering in the world. In the Fusion GPS / Perkins Coie case, it was pure fraud and lying on the documentation, which made it indefensible and allowed for this judgment against her. And if anyone paid attention when Ilhan "Omar" Nur Said Elmi got her campaign finance violation, the trend is that politicians get a totally impotent fine and totally ignore it and carry on being fraudsters unchecked.
